This gallery-wrapped art piece, ready to hang, features a silhouette of a deer standing in front of the moon. When I make art, whatever my medium, I enter an internal world of light and creativity, and I escape the external world of shadow and destruction. While I am painting, I not only live in this light-filled world, I create it. In this sense, I have always made art for myself: to alleviate my own suffering and the painful memories of the war and violence I witnessed, even as a child. Yet although this work is therapeutic for me, my finished pieces also ask the viewer to join me in experiencing these beautiful worlds, and celebrating the triumph of light and color over darkness.
Giclee (jee-clay) is an advanced printmaking process for creating high-quality fine art reproductions. The attainable excellence that giclee printmaking affords makes the reproduction virtually indistinguishable from the original piece. The result is wide acceptance of giclee by galleries, museums, and private collectors. Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist's canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides and is secured by a hidden, wooden frame. This method of stretching and preparing a canvas allows for a frameless presentation of the finished painting.
The artist, Ata Alishahi, creates art that explores the interplay between light and darkness, with a focus on natural landscapes. His work is characterized by a modern, natural style that captures the beauty and serenity of the natural world. This particular piece, a gallery-wrapped canvas art, was made in the USA.
